What do I stand for?

I strive to lead people through change to become the best version of themselves. I believe that, when we are at the best of our potential, we can make an impactful and lasting change that can benefit communities, enterprises, and individuals alike. This is what inspires me.


The love for the sea got me interested in the large inefficiencies still existing in the shipping industry and the large potential for change. Now, I am devoted to lead people in accelerating the transition to a safer and more sustainable shipping.


In my career, I have been leading this acceleration in different ways. Always leading through change, always pushing the boundaries of people and businesses. 

How do I operate?

 My approach is all about:


  1. Maximize people's potential
    Transformational leadership is all about the people: find the right potential and nurture it. Develop others to higher levels of ability and encourage them to see what they are doing from new perspectives.  
  2. Question everything to innovate
    If it has been always this way, it does not mean is a good way now, because "the answers have changed" (Einstein) and what got you here will not get you further. Do not accept mediocrity but challenge the status quo. Take down and rebuilt if necessary.
  3. Challenge to sell
    Teach for differentiation, build a constructive tension and take control of the economic drivers in order to "make the pie bigger" for all parties.
  4. Simplify and Systemize
    Simplify, simplify and simplify! Remove inefficiencies in order to replicate and scale. Don't do more of the wrong, but fix the basics. Apply a systematic view to find what will not "make the boat go faster" and cut it. Because there's beauty in simplicity.
  5. Start lean and Improve later
    Good enough is good to start, then quickly deploy and identify what's to fix. Don't write it in stone but exercise continuous improvement. 


Who am I?

I prefer to see the big picture and work with frameworks at the intersection of business ideas and technical innovation. I am quick to see illogical and inefficient systems, and develop intelligent solutions in response. 


I so much abhor inefficiencies, that, when I spot some, I quickly take on the challenge to lead people and make the change for excellence. I am assertive, strategic and decisive, with a natural desire to lead and, with passion for knowledge and competence, I make sure people push their boundaries.

What is my experience?

 The love for the sea got me interested in the large inefficiencies still existing in the shipping industry and the large potential for change. The shipping industry is safer and more sustainable than it was 40 years ago. So is the automotive industry or many other industries, but the shipping industry still lags behind on the scale of global transformation we have seen in other sectors. I strive to lead people to accelerate the transition to a safer and more sustainable shipping.


Today, I lead a team of senior strategy and business development managers to keep seafarers connected, anytime, anywhere, without compromise and ensure the highest levels of security, safety, crew welfare and accelerate digital transformation.


In my career, I have been leading this acceleration in different ways:

  • I have been leading a sales team to deploy applications for smarter, safer and greener ships via a platform ecosystem.  
  • I have been leading a business unit to develop and sell solutions of condition and operation monitoring and enable safer and more efficient use of ship equipment.
  • I have been leading an engineering team to develop deck and motion control machinery to enable safer ship operations.


Always leading thru change, always pushing the boundaries of people and businesses.

 I strive to be a transformational leader trusted to deliver excellence. I am a driver and a captain: relentless, commercially focused, highly confident, pragmatic, direct and team-enabling.


I profoundly believe in transformational leadership (Bass & Avolio, 1994), meaning the fusion of the 4Is:- Idealized influence, i.e. articulate the mission or vision of the organization- Inspirational motivation, i.e. motivate others to put organizational interests before self interest- Individualized consideration, i.e. develop others to higher levels of ability- Intellectual stimulation, i.e. encourage others to see what they are doing from new perspectives. These principles are my mantra and guide my actions everyday.                 

I am a Driver and a Captain (Kuenne & Danner,  2017), meaning that:- I use a combination of intuition and fact-based analysis to triangulate and refine decisions. I’m hands-on, directive, result- and outcome-oriented.- 


I’m motivated to build an enterprise of enduring value through unleashing the productive potential of individuals and teams. I’m focused on sustainable growth, direct, honest, careful to be consistent with mission and vision. I empower others after setting clear goals and expectations, while consistently applying deeply held principles of honesty and transparency.

 Strong of master a education in business administration (MBA),  I have been managing business units delivering consistent growth.


In a decade with Rolls-Royce Marine, I held key positions including Vice President Engineering for Motion Handling Solutions where I led a team realizing technological solutions for the Marine and Offshore industry. As Vice President of Intelligent Asset Management, I led a team realizing digital solutions for condition and performance management for the Marine Industry as well as the transformation towards autonomous ships.


Today I have the honor to head Maritime Digital at Inmarsat, pushing the boundaries of digitization at sea powered by Inmarsat platform connectivity and IoT solutions. Inmarsat is the world’s leading provider of global mobile satellite communications and a major player in the market for digital and technological solutions to the marine and offshore industry.


In addition, I am a board member of Inspire To Action, an organisation leveraging digital capabilities in edutainment with the intent to communicate an engaging message of sustainability.

 Strong of a master education in engineering (MSc), I have been managing engineering and technology to deliver cutting edge system solutions.


I started programming back in the days when my father, an IT manager in a bank, brought home the manuals of COBOL 85. The love for mechanics and automation came later at university. In digital solution for the maritime industry, I can join together my passion for the sea, software and mechanics.

Today, digital solutions, powered by connectivity and communication, are at the intersection of software (e.g. artificial intelligence and data analytics) and hardware (i.e. machines). 


I am excited to combine so many different engineering disciplines to solve some of the most complex challenges and make a positive impact on world economics and the environment.
